Firefly Photography Workshop

June 9-11, 2020

Tickets to the synchronous firefly showing in the Elkmont section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have become the hottest tickets in town!  More than 28,000 people annually apply in the online lottery system for 1,800 tickets.  You now have the opportunity to photograph synchronous fireflies and no lottery is necessary.

Join Roger Trentham for the unique photographic experience of photographing fireflies in the Smokies.  We will not be joining the crowds in Elkmont as Roger has discovered other locations in the Smokies where the fireflies display their seasonal show by the thousands.

These dates were selected based on Roger’s own experience and based on the moon phase as totally dark skies are necessary for the best firefly photography.  Roger will begin the workshop discussing equipment, techniques and processing that will allow you to obtain magical photographs that few others possess.

Three nights have been set aside for this workshop with the hope of clear weather all three nights however, the workshop will proceed rain or shine.  This workshop is limited to four participants so that all will receive personal instruction.  Some light hiking of up to a mile will be required in daylight and darkness.

The fee for this workshop will be $650 per participant.  No lodging or meals are included and participants will carpool to shooting locations.  All activities will take place a short drive from Gatlinburg.  Participants will be asked to refrain from divulging shooting locations to protect the fragile environments that are required for the fireflies survival.
